Newcastle Transport teaching students’ essential life skill

School students are one of our key customers, here at Newcastle Transport. So, it’s important that we give school children the confidence to travel to and from school by bus. This includes not only when on board but getting to the bus stop and getting off the bus.

The Customer Experience team have developed educational resources and tips designed to teach students from a young age how to travel safely and confidently travel by bus.

The campaign was launched in March to the 66 primary schools in the Newcastle Transport area. There are a number of options for schools to get involved (including COVIDSafe options) from booking an educational session at their school hosted by Newcastle Transport Customer Service Officers, to teachers able to download the resources for their own lesson or passing on the activity sheets for students to complete at home.

So far, the Newcastle Transport team have attended nine schools in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, reaching over 1,200 students.

The schools have been thrilled with the sessions as students are “learning an essential life skill such as catching a bus”.

The campaign will continue throughout 2021.
