Supercars Coates Hire Newcastle 500 returns to the Newcastle foreshore for its third year of action packed racing.

A number of additional bus, ferry and light rail services will run to get you to and from Newcastle over the three-day event. Extra trains will also be running.

Light rail and some bus services will be affected by road closures and will be detouring from their regular routes or using temporary bus stops. Make sure to plan your bus trip ahead of time and check signs at stops. Find more details and maps on service changes here

Bus

CBD bus services will be relocated to alternate stops on Bolton Street and additional services on selected routes will run to help you get to and from the event. From Bolton Street, Gate 2 on Hunter Street and Gate 3 off Watt Street are within short walking distance.

Additional regular route services:

Extra services will run on routes 11, 12, 13 and 14 on Saturday and Sunday during the event. All services will run to and from Bolton St or Marketown.

Saturday:

  • Route 11 – Jesmond – Newcastle
    • To Newcastle: additional services will run from Jesmond every 10 minutes from 6.20am until 10am and then every 30 minutes thereafter as per normal timetable.
    • Back to Jesmond: services leave from Bolton St every 30 minutes with additional services running every 10 minutes from 4pm until 7pm and then every 10 minutes from 9.30pm until 10.50pm.
  • Route 12 – Wallsend – Newcastle
    • To Newcastle East: additional services will run from Wallsend every 20 minutes from 6am until 10am
    • Normal timetable services will continue to service Newcastle West. From here customers can connect with routes 11 and 13 services to Bolton Street.
    • Back to Wallsend: services leave from Bolton St between 10 and 20minutes from 4.40pm until 7pm and then every 10 minutes from Newcastle West from 9.20pm until 11.20pm. 
  • Route 13 – Glendale – Newcastle:
    • To Newcastle: additional services will run from the Glendale Centre every 10 minutes from 6.30am until 9.20am and then every 30 minutes thereafter as per normal timetable.
    • Back to Glendale: services leave from Bolton St every 30 minutes with additional services running every 10 minutes from 4.30pm until 7pm and then every 10 minutes from 9.30pm until 10.50pm.
  • Route 14 – Swansea Heads – Charlestown – Newcastle:
    • To Newcastle: additional services will run from Swansea Heads every 10 minutes from 6am until 9:30am and then every one hour thereafter as per normal timetable.
    • Back to Swansea Heads: services leave from Bolton St every 30 minutes with additional services running every 10 minutes from 4.30pm until 7.15pm and then every 10 minutes from 9.30pm until 11.15pm.

Sunday:

  • Route 11 – Jesmond – Newcastle
    • To Newcastle: additional services will run from Jesmond every 10 minutes from 6am until 9:20am and then every 30 minutes thereafter as per normal timetable.
    • Back to Jesmond: services leave from Bolton St every 30 minutes with additional services running every 10 minutes from 5pm until 7.20pm and then every hour thereafter until 11.15pm.
  • Route 12 – Wallsend – Newcastle
    • To Newcastle: additional services will run from Wallsend between 10 and 20 minutes from 6.30am until 9:30am and then every 30 minutes thereafter as per normal timetable.
    • Normal timetable services will continue to service Newcastle West. From here customers can connect with routes 11 and 13 services to Bolton Street.
    • Back to Wallsend: services leave from Steel St at Parry St every 30 minutes with additional services running from Bolton Street between 10 and 20 minutes from 5pm until 6.40pm and then normal timetable services will continue to service Newcastle West.
  • Route 13 – Glendale – Newcastle:
    • To Newcastle: additional services will run from the Glendale Centre every 10 minutes from 6am until 9:30am and then every 30 minutes thereafter as per normal timetable.
    • Back to Glendale: services leave from Bolton St every 30 minutes with additional services running every 10 minutes from 4.20pm until 7.20pm and then every hour thereafter until 11pm.
  • Route 14 – Swansea Heads – Charlestown – Newcastle:
    • To Newcastle: additional services will run from Swansea Heads and Charlestown every 10 minutes from 6am until 9am and then thereafter as per normal timetable.
    • Back to Charlestown: services leave from Bolton St every 30 minutes with additional services running every 10 minutes from 4.15pm until 7.15pm and then every hour thereafter until 11.45pm.
    • Back to Swansea Heads: as per normal timetable with additional services running every 10 minutes from 4.15pm until 7.15pm

Ferry

Ferries run regularly between Stockton and Queens Wharf in Newcastle. You can drive and park at Stockton Wharf and continue your trip across to Newcastle by ferry. Car parks open at 6am each day (at a gold coin donation cost). Gate 1A and 1B are a short walk from Queens Wharf along the waterfront via the Foreshore footpath.

Ferries between Stockton and Queens Wharf operating times:

  • Friday: between 5 and10 minutes from 7am until 10.30pm, and as per normal timetable between 5.15am and 7am and from 10.30pm until midnight.
  • Saturday: between 5 and 10 minutes from 7am until 10.30pm, and as per normal timetable between 5.20am and 7am and from 10.30pm to midnight.
  • Sunday: every 5 and 10 minutes from 7am until 10pm, and as per Saturday timetable between 5.20am and 7am.

Light rail

Newcastle Light Rail runs regularly between Newcastle Interchange and Newcastle Beach making stops At Honeysuckle, Civic, Crown St and Queens Wharf along the way.

Services between Newcastle Interchange and Queens Wharf will run frequently during the event from the early morning until after midnight. From Queens Wharf, access to the event precinct via Gate 1A and 1B is a short walk away along the foreshore.

Light rail services will operate to a normal timetable on Friday, with 7.5 minute frequency between 7am and 7pm and 15 minute frequency until midnight.

Light rail services will run to 7.5 minute frequency between 7am and 8pm on Saturday and Sunday with a higher frequency during peak periods. The light rail will operate to a normal timetable between 5am and 7am and 8pm and 1am.

 

Service changes

  • From 5am Thursday 21 November until 1am Tuesday 26 November: services will start and end at Queens Wharf instead of Newcastle Beach while race track infrastructure is in place.
  • From 5:30pm to 8pm on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November: Crown Street light rail stop will be closed during event bump out for crowd safety
