Good trips start with respect

At Newcastle Transport, we’re proud to connect our community every day. Whether you’re jumping on a bus, ferry, or light rail, public transport works best when everyone shows a little kindness and respect.

We know the ride can sometimes get a little noisy, crowded, or even frustrating. That’s why Transport for NSW has launched a new etiquette campaign reminding us all how small actions can make a big difference.

You might notice some posters around the network featuring the “Creatures of Public Transport” — like The Hot Head, The Blocker, The Noise Machine and The Bag Seater. These cheeky characters highlight everyday habits that can cause frustration for both customers and staff.

The message is simple: being mindful of others creates a smoother, more enjoyable journey for everyone. A little patience when boarding, giving up a seat for someone who needs it, keeping noise to a minimum, or treating our drivers with respect — it all adds up.

Our bus, ferry and light rail operators play a huge role in keeping Newcastle and Lake Macquarie moving. They’re out there every day, helping customers get where they need to go.

So next time you travel, remember — a smile, a thank you, or simply showing respect goes a long way. Together, we can make public transport not just a way to get around, but a place where kindness comes along for the ride.
