To celebrate International Women’s Day on Friday 8 March, Newcastle Transport is highlighting the invaluable contributions of women in the transport industry. From bus drivers to ferry operators to light rail staff, women are playing pivotal roles in keeping our city moving, while also breaking gender stereotypes and inspiring future generations.
This year’s theme Inspire Inclusionencourages an environment where individuals of all backgrounds, abilities, and perspectives feel valued, respected, and actively engaged.
According to recent statistics, the number of women working in the transport industry in Australia has been steadily increasing over the years, with more and more women taking up roles traditionally held by men.
This year, Newcastle Transport staff spoke about the misconceptions about women in the transport industry and offered their advice to women considering a role in bus, light rail and ferry operations.
