Getting to University

Welcome to university life! You’ve got your books, your laptop, and probably a few snacks to survive those long study sessions—but have you figured out how you’re getting to campus?

Skip the parking hassle and hop on public transport! With frequent bus routes to Callaghan Campus and both bus and light rail services stopping at NUspace, getting to class has never been easier.

Choosing public transport means saving money for more important things (like coffee), skipping traffic tantrums, reducing your carbon footprint, catching up with friends, cramming last-minute study, and cruising straight to Callaghan and NUspace hassle-free!

Getting to Callaghan Campus

  1. Route 11 will take you in and out of Callaghan Campus with frequent services every 15 minutes during weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends, between 7am and 7pm.
  2. Routes 24, 27 will take you in and out of Callaghan Campus every 30 minutes during peak periods and hourly throughout the day.

Getting to NUspace (City Campus)

  1. Newcastle light rail runs between Newcastle Interchange and Newcastle Beach every 7.5 minutes between 7am and 7pm on weekdays and regularly until 1am. Hop off at Civic light rail stop – right in front of NUspace and only a short walk to Q building.
  2. Bus routes 11, 12, 13 and 14 have Newcastle covered with frequent services every 15 minutes during weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends, between 7am and 7pm.
  3. Bus routes 22, 23, 24, 26, 28 and 47 run every 30 minutes during peak periods and hourly throughout the day.
  4. The Ferry runs between Stockton and Queens Wharf. Services are every 15 minutes during the peak and 20 minutes throughout the day. Hop onto the light rail at Queens Wharf light rail stop to get to Civic light rail stop – right in front of NU Space and only a short walk to Q building.

Applying for your concession Opal card

If you’re a full time, on-campus student, you may be entitled to a travel concession. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Check your eligibility for a concession card
  2. On the second day of term (25 February) you will be able to provide your consent via myHub to share your details with Transport for NSW.
  3. Fill in the application form.
  4. Travel with your student IwD as proof of entitlement.
