Getting to the University of Newcastle with Newcastle Transport

When was the last time you used public transport? With bus, light rail and ferry, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie have more public transport services than ever before. Getting to know your public transport options can make a difference in your day. By leaving the car at home you can let go of the stress of parking, add more time into your day and decrease your carbon footprint.

Getting to Callaghan Campus

Bus

Route 11

It’s not hard to see why this route is known as the uni service.
There are services every 15 minutes between Jesmond, Callaghan Campus, Mayfield and the CBD.
Every second service travels between Callaghan Campus and Charlestown.
Hop off at either the Maths Building or Design Building.
Bus routes 14, 22, 25, 28, 41, 43, 48 and On Demand services can connect with the route 11 at Charlestown.

Route 24

The route 24 travels between Wallsend, Callaghan Campus, Mayfield, Carrington and Marketown Newcastle West. Services are every 30 minutes during the peak periods and hourly throughout the day.

The route 27 travels between Wallsend, Callaghan Campus, Waratah and Broadmeadow Station. Services are every 30 minutes during the peak periods and hourly throughout the day.

Getting to City Campus by light rail

Newcastle light rail runs between Newcastle Interchange and Newcastle Beach every 7.5 minutes between 7am and 7pm on weekdays and regularly until 1am.
Hop off at Civic light rail stop – right in front of NU Space and only a short walk to Q building.

Bus

Getting to City Campus by bus

Bus routes 11, 12, 13 and 14 have Newcastle covered with frequent services every 15 minutes during weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends, between 7am and 7pm.

Bus routes 22, 23, 24, 26, 28 and 47 run every 30 minutes during peak periods and hourly throughout the day.

For routes 11, 13 and 23 hop off on King Street near Auckland Street. For route 14, hop off at Newcastle Art Gallery on Darby Street.

For routes 12, 22, 24, 26, 28 and 47 hop off at Newcastle Interchange or Honeysuckle light rail stop to connect with the light rail. Hop off at Civic light rail stop – right in front of NU Space and only a short walk to Q building.

        Getting to City Campus by ferry

        Newcastle Transport operates the ferry between Stockton and Queens Wharf. Services are every 15 minutes during the peak and 20 minutes throughout the day.
        Hop onto the light rail at Queens Wharf light rail stop to get to Civic light rail stop – right in front of NU Space and only a short walk to Q building.

        Newcastle Interchange is serviced by the Central Coast and Hunter lines.
        Connect with light rail services every 7.5 minutes to get to Civic light rail stop – right in front of NU Space and only a short walk to Q building.

        Students who are full-time, on-campus students may be entitled to a travel concession. 

        Students who are attaining a travel concession for the first time you will need to complete a consent form via UON’s myHub , before applying for your Concession Opal card via Opal. International students may be eligible for other travel concessions.
