Getting to Surfest with Newcastle Transport

Newcastle Transport is the best way to get to Surfest with buses running regularly to Merewether Beach.

Bus

The routes 12 and 21 get you directly to the event with a bus stop at Watkins Street before Berner Street.

The route 12 operates from Wallsend to Merewether Beach via Newcastle Interchange every day from 5am and 1am. Between 7am and 7pm it runs every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends.

The route 21 operates from Broadmeadow Station to Newcastle East, via Merewether Beach.

Routes 11, 13, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 and 47 can connect with the route 12 at the bus stop on Hunter Street at Florence Street.

Light Rail

If you are travelling from Newcastle’s City centre, Newcastle light rail runs between Newcastle Interchange and Newcastle Beach every 7.5 minutes between 7am and 7pm on weekdays and regularly until 1am.

Use the light rail to travel to:

• Newcastle Interchange stop to connect with the route 12 at Hunter Street at Florence Street – a short walk from Newcastle Interchange.
• Newcastle Beach stop and take a short walk to connect with the route 21 at Customs House, Watt Street.

Ferry

The ferry operates between Stockton and Queens Wharf with services every 15 minutes during peak periods and 20 minutes throughout the day and weekends.

• Connect with the route 21 service at Customs House, Watt Street – a short walk from the Newcastle Beach stop.
