School service changes

Upcoming school service changes – Monday 24 June 2024

Newcastle Transport are always looking for opportunities to improve the safety and reliability of our school services.

These changes will include:

  • Extension of three school routes to accommodate provide additional service,
  • Adjustment of two routes to improve safety
  • Route number change to one route avoid confusion for students.

Students and families are encouraged to check the routes below to see how their service may have changed or check their school timetable to plan ahead.

From Monday 24 June 2024, some minor changes may impact the following routes:

776 (afternoon service)

Newcastle Transport will extend the afternoon school bus routes 776 and 819 to start from Belair Primary School.

From Monday 24 June, the school bus route 776 will commence from Belair Public School at 3:11pm.

The school route 776 service will continue to operate from:

  • Lexington Pde near Kotara High, Adamstown Heights at 3.17pm
  • St Philip’s Catholic Church, Vista Parade, Kotara at 3.19pm
  • Boundary St at Laurie St, Kotara South at 3.22pm
  • Garden Suburb Public School, Prospect Rd at 3.30pm
  • Royal St opposite Portland Pl, New Lambton at 3.44pm.

There will be no impact or change for Kotara High School or St James Primary, as the service will commence earlier to allow additional time to start from Belair Primary School.

819 (afternoon service)

Newcastle Transport will extend the afternoon school bus routes 776 and 819 to start from Belair Primary School.

From Monday 24 June, the school bus route 819 will commence from Belair Public School at 3:24pm.

The school route 819 service will continue to operate from:

  • Lexington Pde near Kotara High, Adamstown Heights at 3.30pm
  • Adamstown Station at 3.42pm
  • Adamstown Community Early Learning, Glebe Road at 3.44pm
  • TAFE Hunter, Parry St, Newcastle West at 3.56pm

There will be no impact to Kotara High School or St Pius X, as the service will commence earlier to allow additional time to start from Belair Primary School.

705 (afternoon service)

From Monday 24 June, the bus will take an alternate route to Turton Road due to changes to road conditions.

This will mean the school bus route 705 service in the afternoon will travel via Wallarah Rd, Monash Rd and Turton Rd, instead of Wallarah Road and Young Road, Lambton.

There will be no change to the timetable.

761 (afternoon service)

From Monday 24 June, the school bus 761 will take an alternate route to Turton Road due to changes to road conditions.

This means the school bus route 761 service in the afternoon will travel via Womboin Rd, Orlando Rd, and Young Rd, instead of Wallarah Road and Young Road, Lambton.

There will be no change to the timetable.

844 (afternoon service)

From Monday 24 June, the school bus route 844 will be extended to Swansea High School to provide more travel options to students from Belmont Christian College.

849 – commencing from Adamstown Heights (morning service)

Due to two variations of school bus route 849, the service travelling from Adamstown Heights to St Phillip’s College, Waratah route number will be changed to school bus service route 850.

The school bus route 849 will continue to travel between Charlestown Square and Lambton High School.

Customer Service Officers will ride the service in the lead up to the change to inform students and answer any questions.
