Celebrate light rail safety poster competition. 28 June - 30 July 2021. $2500 worth of prizes up for grabs.

Newcastle Transport is celebrating safety on the light rail and we’d love your help! We want to see school aged children (Kindergarten to Year 12) across Newcastle use their creativity and imagination to come up with great poster designs that will help us to make sure our customers stay safe around the light rail.

The competition is open to anyone who fits into the Kindergarten to Year 12 age group entry categories – schools, the general public, vacation care and OOSH groups are all welcome to participate!

How to enter

To enter, design a poster celebrating safety on the light rail using the entry form. You can use just about any materials you like! Before you enter, make sure you read the poster criteria section at the bottom of the page.

Newcastle Transport ‘Celebrate Safety’ Poster Competition Terms and Conditions

  1. These terms apply. Information on how to enter and prize details form part of these terms and conditions. If there is any conflict between these terms and conditions and any other published materials, these terms and conditions will prevail. Entry into this competition constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions. Entries must comply with these terms and conditions to be valid. This competition is governed by the laws of New South Wales.
  2. Promoter. The promoter of this competition is Keolis Downer Hunter, ABN 89 614 205 766, 89 Denison Street, Hamilton NSW 2303 (Promoter).
  3. Competition period. This competition runs from 00:00 (AEST) Monday, 28 June 2021 to 23:59 (AEST) 30 July 2021 (Competition Period). Entries received outside the Competition Period will not be considered.
  4. Eligibility. Entry is only open to Australian residents who are currently enrolled in a primary school or high school. Entrants under 18 years old must have permission from a parent or guardian to enter and further, the parent/guardian of the entrant must read and consent to these Terms and Conditions. Parents/guardians may be required by the Promoter to enter into a further agreement as evidence of consent to the minor entering this promotion. Keolis Downer Hunter employees and their immediate family members are ineligible for entry. Immediate family means any of the following: spouse, ex-spouse, de-facto spouse, child or step-child (whether natural or by adoption), parent, step-parent, grandparent, step-grandparent, uncle, aunt, niece, nephew, brother, sister, step-brother, step-sister or 1st cousin.
  5. How to Enter.
    1. Entry into this Competition is free.
    2. To be eligible to enter this competition, Eligible Entrants must, create a poster, meeting the supplied criteria.
    3. To enter this competitions, Eligible Entrants must complete either of the following entry methods during the Competition Period:
      1. Visit newcastletransport.info/celebratesafety and follow the prompts to the promotion entry page, input the requested details, upload a high quality photo or scan and submit the fully completed online entry form. Uploaded files must be submitted in JPEG, PNG or PDF format, must be at least 2400 pixels (wide) x 3500 pixels (high) and must not exceed 20 MB file size;
      2. Drop in a physical copy of the poster at the Newcastle Interchange or Hamilton Bus Depot, ensuring that full name, email address, phone number, school name and grade are included on the back of the poster;
      3. Mail the poster to Newcastle Transport Celebrate Safety Competition, PO Box 466, Hamilton NSW 2303, ensuring that full name, email address, phone number, school name and grade are included on the back of the poster so that it is received by last mail on 31 July 2021; or
      4. Provide a physical copy of the poster to a Keolis Downer Hunter representative that attends the entrant’s school ensuring that full name, email address, phone number, school name and grade are included on the back of the poster.
    4. Only one (1) entry per entrant is permitted.
    5. Valid contact details provided.
  1. Poster criteria. All entries must meet the below criteria in order to be eligible for entry.
    1. Drawn using any of the following mediums – pencils, textas, paint, crayons, glitter, stickers. There is no limitation on the use and number of colours. There is no limitation on the type of media – such as print, crayon, felt pen, etc. – used on the poster design; however, wood, plastic, glass, or metal should not be part of the poster.
    2. Poster designs may not incorporate any copyrighted characters (i.e. comic and/or television characters), photographs, and magazine or newspaper illustrations.
    3. Drawings must be original, correct in safety concept, and the exclusive work of the student entering the contest in idea, design and execution. All artwork should be positive in approach, demonstrating only proper safety behaviours.
    4. DO NOT place name, school, etc. on the front of the poster. Please include this only on the entry form.
    5. Provide a clear safety message for travelling on Newcastle Transport’s light rail
    6. Have correct spelling
    7. Include a hand illustrated Newcastle Transport logo
    8. Include the words ‘Celebrate Safety’
    9. Contain original illustrations clearly demonstrating one of the following:
      1. Safe behaviour
      2. Good hygiene and COVID Safe travel

Entries which do not meet the above criteria will be deemed invalid.

  1. Entrants agree that they are fully responsible for any materials they submit via the promotion including but not limited to comments, recordings and images (“Content”). The Promoter shall not be liable in any way for such Content to the full extent permitted by law. The Promoter may remove or decline to publish any Content without notice for any reason whatsoever. Entrants warrant and agree that:
    1. they will not submit any Content that is unlawful or fraudulent, or that the Promoter may deem in breach of any intellectual property, privacy, publicity or other rights, defamatory, obscene, derogatory, pornographic, sexually inappropriate, violent, abusive, harassing, threatening, objectionable with respect to race, religion, origin or gender, not suitable for children younger than their age category, or otherwise unsuitable for publication;
    2. their Content shall not contain viruses or cause injury or harm to any person or entity;
    3. they will obtain prior consent from any person or from the owner(s) of any property that appears in their Content;
    4. the Content is the original artistic work of the entrant that does not infringe the rights of any third party;
    5. they consent to any use of the Content which may otherwise infringe the Content creator’s/creators’ moral rights pursuant to the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth) and warrant that they have the full authority to grant these rights; and
    6. they will comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including without limitation, those governing copyright, content, defamation, privacy, publicity and the access or use of others’ computer or communication systems.

Without limiting any other terms herein, the entrant agrees to indemnify the Promoter for any breach of the above terms.

  1. Judging. Judging will be completed by the Keolis Downer Hunter Customer Experience department at 89 Denison Street, Hamilton NSW 2303 on 2nd August 2021 at 10:00am. Three (3) prize winners will be chosen for each age category: K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-12. This is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the winner(s). Posters will be judged on the following criteria:
    1. Safety Impact – relationship of the poster design to the safety practices
    2. Originality– originality of the poster and how the idea is expressed in the poster design
    3. Artistic Quality– Artwork and its execution
    4. Visual Impact– Visual impact of the poster design
    5. COVID Safe travel – Where relevant, how well COVID Safe travel and good hygiene practices are represented
  2. Prizes. There best three (3) entries per age category, as determined by the judges, will be awarded a prize, with a total of twelve (12) prizes to be awarded. Total prize pool is $2,527.00. A detailed list of prizes can be found in the Schedule. The judges may select additional reserve entries which they determine to be the next best, and record them in order, in case of an invalid entry or ineligible entrant. If the winner of any prize is under the age of 18 years, the prize will be awarded to the winner’s nominated parent or guardian. prizes, or any unused portion of a prize, is non-exchangeable, non-transferable, and is not redeemable for cash or other prizes, unless otherwise specified. The Promoter reserves the right to alter any prize in the event of unforeseen circumstances. Winning entries from each category will also be reproduced and displayed at the Newcastle Interchange.
  3. Notification. Winners will be notified by the Promoter via phone and/or email within two (2) business days. The prize winners will need to collect the prize from Keolis Downer Hunter at 89 Denison Street, Hamilton 2303 within two (2) weeks of being notified. Should any prize winner fail to claim their prize (or an element of their prize) within the time period after all reasonable efforts by Keolis Downer to make contact, the prize will be forfeited and a new winner will be selected.
  4. The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to verify the validity of entries and entrants (including an entrant’s identity, age and place of residence) and reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who the Promoter has reason to believe has breached any of these Terms and Conditions, tampered with the entry process or engaged in any unlawful or other improper misconduct calculated to jeopardise fair and proper conduct of the promotion. Errors and omissions may be accepted at the Promoter’s discretion. Failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights. The Promoter’s legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an offender are reserved.
  5. If there is a dispute as to the identity of an entrant, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to determine the identity of the entrant.
  6. The Promoter’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  7. If any prize (or part of any prize) is unavailable, the Promoter, in its discretion, reserves the right to substitute the prize (or that part of the prize) with a prize to the equal value and/or specification.
  8. ‘iPad’ is a trademark of Apple Inc.  Apple Inc is not a participant in or sponsor of this promotion.
  9. If this promotion is interfered with in any way or is not capable of being conducted as reasonably anticipated due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter, including but not limited to technical difficulties, unauthorised intervention or fraud, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law (a) to disqualify any entrant; or (b) to modify, suspend, terminate or cancel the promotion, as appropriate.
  10. Ancillary or incidental costs. Any ancillary or incidental costs (including, without limitation, any costs incurred in receiving, collecting, redeeming, or using a prize) relating to this competition or a prize are not included and are the responsibility of the entrant and/or the prize winner. Any unused balance of a voucher prize will not be awarded as cash. Redemption of any voucher is subject to any terms and conditions of the issuer including those specified on the voucher. Any cost associated with accessing the promotional website is the entrant’s responsibility and is dependent on the Internet service provider used.
  11. Publicity. The Promoter may ask for a prize winners’ consent and/or the consent of the prize winners’ parent or guardian to use the prize winner’s name, image and entry (including Content and poster design) for an unlimited period without remuneration for the Promoter’s purpose of promoting initiatives of the Promoter. The prize winners and/or their parent or guardian consents to the Promoter taking and using the prize winners’ Entry and any photographs, video and sound recordings (including any likeness or image) of the prize winner in connection with the competition (including when receiving or enjoying the prizes) (collectively the “Material”) and to the Promoter publishing and distributing the poster design, Material and Content (in whole or part) and the name of the prize winners on the Promoter’s website, on television, social media, in print and electronic mainstream media; and other associate promotional materials without any further reference or payment or other compensation to the prize winner. The prize winners and/or their parent or guardian acknowledges that the Content and Material will be kept by the Promoter for an indefinite period of time and that they do not have any rights in the Content or Material.  Further, as a condition of entering this promotion, each entrant agrees to assign all of their rights, title and interest (including copyright) in and to their entry (which shall include Material and Content) to the Promoter, and to execute any documents to confirm such assignment. Entries will not be returned to any entrant. A separate consent form will be provided.    
  12. Privacy Notice. The Promoter collects personal information (“PI”) in order to conduct the promotion and may, for this purpose, disclose such PI to third parties, including but not limited to agents, contractors, service providers and prize suppliers. Entry is conditional on providing this PI. The Promoter will also use and handle PI as set out in its Privacy Policy, which can be viewed at https://newcastletransport.info/privacy-policy/.  The Privacy Policy also contains information about how entrants may opt out, access, update or correct their PI, how entrants may complain about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles or any other applicable law and how those complaints will be dealt with. All entries become the property of the Promoter. The Promoter will not disclose entrant’s personal information to any entity outside of Australia.
  13. Dispute. Any disputes concerning the conduct of the competition or the claiming of the Prize are to be resolved with the Promoter via email to contact@newcastletransport.info
  14. Liability. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits, excludes or modifies or purports to limit, exclude or modify the statutory consumer guarantees as provided under the Competition and Consumer Act (Cth), as well as any other implied warranties under the ASIC Act (Cth) or similar consumer protection laws in the States and Territories of Australia (“Non-Excludable Guarantees”). Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded, including the Non-Excludable Guarantees, the Promoter (including its respective officers, employees and agents) excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of the promotion.
  15. Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded, including the Non-Excludable Guarantees, the Promoter (including its respective officers, employees and agents) is not responsible for and excludes all liability (including negligence), for any personal injury; or any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity); whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of: (a) any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the Promoter’s control); (b) any theft, unauthorised access or third party interference; (c) any entry or prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by the Promoter) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter; (d) any variation in prize value to that stated in these Terms and Conditions; (e) any tax liability incurred by a winner or entrant; or (f) use of a prize.
