Newcastle Transport is the integrated transport provider for Newcastle, and is responsible for running buses, ferries, the light rail and the multi-modal Newcastle Interchange. Keolis Downer has been awarded a 10 year contract to design and run Newcastle Transport services across all modes of travel.
Over the 10-year contract, we will continue to review the network in line with customer feedback, consult with the community and monitor the network to ensure we are delivering a transport solution locals want.
Newcastle Transport is part of Revitalising Newcastle, a NSW Government program focused on activating the city to attract people, new enterprises and tourism to Newcastle.
Keolis Downer is Australia’s largest private provider of multi-modal public transport, delivering over 210 million passenger trips each year.
Established in 2009, Keolis Downer is a joint venture between Keolis, a world leading public transport provider with operations in 16 countries, and Downer, a leader in engineering and infrastructure management in Australia and New Zealand.
Keolis Downer operates G:link on the Gold Coast, Yarra Trams in Melbourne, and approximately 1,000 buses a South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland. We employ 4,000 staff across Australia, with 1,600 in our bus operations alone

Keolis Downer has a contract with Transport for NSW, under which the government sets minimum service standards and KPIs, and the operator has a level of autonomy to plan and run services.
The contract contains increased performance standards and KPIs, including financial incentives to grow patronage, and therefore a strong incentive to improve services and deliver transport services locals want.
